The Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament candidate, Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti, has called on voters to rally behind her, citing her love for the people and a clear vision for development.

Ingrid made the appeal on Wednesday, 18th December 2025, while addressing supporters during the launch of her campaign trails across several trading centres, including Makerere, Ahakitooma, Kaceeka, Kiyaga, Ruruku and Kakabada in Northern Ward A, Western Division of Rukungiri Municipality.

She pledged to prioritise the well-being of residents through people-centred initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and access to social services. Ingrid highlighted her past and planned support towards the establishment of village savings and credit schemes, provision of mama kits for expectant mothers, sanitary pads for school-going girls, scholarships for needy learners, and the acquisition of a public ambulance to ease access to medical care.

Ingrid further expressed her commitment to defending democratic freedoms, vowing to advocate for the release of jailed opposition politicians, including Dr Kiiza Besigye, Sam Mugumya and Samuel Makorha, once elected to Parliament.

Meanwhile, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) leadership in Rukungiri District condemned the alleged assault of one of their members, Dickson Nuwamumpa, which they suspect was carried out by political rivals. The party called for respect for political tolerance and peaceful campaigns.

Local leaders also voiced their support for Ingrid’s candidature. Kitimba Ward Municipal Councillor Keijukuru Vianny welcomed the growing cooperation between PFF supporters and members of the ruling NRM who have pledged to back Ingrid’s bid. Western Division Councillor for Northern Ward A, Topher Behimbisa Science, expressed confidence in Ingrid’s chances, noting the positive reception she continues to receive from voters.

Several residents of Northern Ward A, including Scora Nyasenene, Twesigye Richard and Nahabwe Fausta, assured Ingrid of their support, describing her as a reliable advocate for justice, democracy and the freedom of detained political leaders, as well as a strong pillar for the growth of the People’s Front for Freedom party in Rukungiri Municipality.
