Over 10,000 patients in Mitooma District and surrounding areas are expected to receive free medical services, generously donated by the Kazoora Foundation, the Office of the Speaker of Mitooma District, Crest Care Medical Specialists, Mulago Ankole Health Students Association, and Bright Smiles Dental Clinic.

These well-wishers have organized a free medical camp at Mutara and Kabira Health Center III. The event, expected to attract over 200 medical professionals, will offer screenings, medication refills, and counseling for patients dealing with conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, dental issues, cancer, family planning, antenatal care, orthopedic concerns, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS, among others.

The two-day medical camp, dubbed the “Non-Communicable Diseases Independence Camp,” will take place on October 9th and 10th, 2024, with a team of medics arriving a week earlier to assess the patient turnout and plan accordingly.

Arthur Atuhweirire Kazoora, Managing Director of Kazoora Foundation and a prospective Member of Parliament for Ruhinda County, initiated this camp after recognizing the high death toll caused by non-communicable diseases in his county, where at least three deaths occur monthly. He emphasized the importance of the camp in raising awareness and saving lives.

Moses Tumwekwatse, Speaker of Mitooma District, highlighted that the camp is held annually every Independence Day and urged the community to participate, emphasizing its impartial nature.

Evalyn Ahimbisibwe Muhimbo, LC3 Chairperson of Rwanja Sub-County, welcomed the initiative, noting the presence of disadvantaged patients in the area who struggle to access hospitals and pay medical bills. She encouraged everyone to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to learn about their health status for better awareness and prevention.

Karwani Lawrence, LC3 Chairperson of Mayanga Sub-County, echoed these sentiments, urging the organizers to expand the services to the sub-county level to ensure that the disadvantaged are reached.

Enos Akampurira, a resident of Rwongora Cell, Rwanja East, expressed gratitude for the camp, noting that many patients in the area are hesitant to seek medical attention.
