The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a hearing for Friday, 21st November 2025, on a petition filed by Kajara PFF aspiring Member of Parliament, Hon. Ahabwe Venansio.

The petition challenges the nomination of Hon. James Hunter Tukahirwa to contest in the forthcoming elections. The notice, released yesterday evening, was signed by Richard Baabo Kamugisha, the Attorney General Secretary of the Electoral Commission (Ref: LEG75/79/01), and addressed to both Hon. Tukahirwa and the Ntungamo District Returning Officer, Latifu Ngonzi.

Hon. Ahabwe Venansio alleges that Hon. Tukahirwa was involved in court matters in 2022 while serving as a security officer in the Ministry of Transport. According to the petition, he misused government vehicles for personal projects, including constructing houses.

Hon. Ahabwe cited the Leadership Code Act of 2002 (Cap 33) and the Parliamentary Elections Act (Cap 177), which bar individuals with court cases from holding leadership positions until seven years have elapsed.

The EC hearing tomorrow will determine whether Hon. Tukahirwa is eligible to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
