Centenary Bank Rukungiri Branch has donated an assortment of foodstuffs to Bikurungu Seed Secondary School in Bikurungu Town Council, Rukungiri District, in a bid to support the newly established institution.

The donation, delivered on February 4, 2026, included 300 kilograms of maize flour, 150 kilograms of beans, and pens to help students settle into the school environment and improve their welfare.

Bikurungu Seed Secondary School opened at the beginning of this year but has been operating without government funding. So far, the institution has only received a head teacher from the government, leaving it to rely on community support to sustain its operations and implement government education programs.

The Manager of Centenary Bank Rukungiri Branch, Brian Kasaija, said the donation was made in solidarity with the school as it navigates the challenges of operating without adequate financial support. He noted that the contribution is intended to boost students’ well-being and ensure they can focus on their studies.

Onesmus Atukwatsa, Head of Customer Care at the branch, emphasized that the initiative is part of the bank’s broader commitment to giving back to the community beyond providing financial services.

The school headmistress, Ms. Kembaga Gertrude, welcomed the donation, highlighting the ongoing struggle to provide proper meals for students. She called upon other institutions and well-wishers to extend support to the school as it awaits full government funding.

Bikurungu Town Council Mayor, Wallen Kajuna, commended Centenary Bank for the timely intervention, noting that many parents in the area face financial challenges and are unable to fully sustain the institution.

Similarly, the newly elected Mayor, Sunday George Rwakinwa, appreciated the support, observing that students cannot effectively learn on empty stomachs. He said the donation would go a long way in strengthening the school’s progress during its formative stage.
