Bwambara youths have raised concerns over rising unemployment, urging leaders to lobby for tertiary skilling institutions that can equip them with skills to overcome poverty and create employment opportunities.

The concerns were voiced during a campaign rally of Rujumbura County Independent MP aspirant, Murebire Junior Rwendeire, who is seeking support ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at the rally, Rukungiri District Youths Vice Chairperson, Mr. Daison Baguma, expressed frustration over high youth unemployment, which he said has led to idleness, redundancy, and widespread poverty. He attributed the problem to the lack of tertiary skilling centers and the presence of substandard education facilities, which have discouraged some residents from sending their children to school. He further noted that some youths spend most of their time gambling instead of engaging in productive activities.

“Given that Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi Marypaula successfully lobbied for at least two tertiary skilling institutions in Rubabo County, we call on Rwendeire Junior to answer residents’ concerns and ensure similar opportunities are brought to Rujumbura,” Baguma said.

Similarly, in Kyabahanga Parish, resident Muhumuza Ronald Kyarikunda highlighted the lack of skilling centers across Bwambara Subcounty and the broader Rujumbura Constituency. He said that while some youths work in farms, many remain idle or engage in alcoholism and drug abuse, exacerbating poverty and other social challenges. Kyarikunda called on Rwendeire to champion the lobbying of such essential services if elected.

In response, Rwendeire pledged to advocate for government tertiary skilling centers and support graduates with capital to establish their own businesses. He dismissed claims that, as an independent candidate, he opposes the government, affirming his support and urging residents to vote wisely.

Addressing perceptions that Bwambara residents are “blind, ignorant, and poor,” Rwendeire encouraged them to reject such labels, resist political bribery, and exercise their right to free and fair elections. He positioned himself as an area-born candidate who can represent local interests and lobby for services that promote economic growth and development.
