The Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development has postponed the planned National Youth Day that was slated for 12th August 2023 in Kabale District as preparations continue.
According to the Kabale District Organization Committee focal person also the District’s Community Development Officer Christopher Namara the National Event has been shifted to the 18th of August, 2023 at Kigezi High School Primary playground in Kabale municipality following an agreement that was reached on Thursday during the National Organizing Committee meeting held at the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development in Kampala.
He said that decision followed several engagements by the National Organizing Committee, the state house, and the Kabale Diocese who are also planning to hold the ordination of 16 priests on the 12th of August, 2023 adding that the decision intended to avoid the collision of two big functions in the district Namara said that the National Youths Day will be commenced with a youth week where a series of activities including planting 1000 trees, community work, Exhibitions, dialogues, and entertainments among other activities.
The Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma and the Chief Administrative Officer Fred Kalyesubula said the district intends to mobilize 10,000 people especially the youths from the village level who will be provided lunch and transport with support from the minister of State for Trade, Industries and Cooperatives David Bahati.
This year’s National Youths Day celebrations will be held under the theme” Accelerating Recovery from Covid-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda” and the role of the Youths. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the guest of honor at the event.
