RUBANDA-A section of residents of Hamukaaka Village in Kabere Parish of Muko Sub County in Rubanda district are accusing their acting Village Chairperson, Michael Bareberaho of extortion and selling of village farming materials.
Barebereho, who is the Village Vice Chairperson was given a village stamp in 2020, following the death of the Chairperson, George Mugyenyi.
The residents who held a meeting yesterday with the Sub County leadership and security at Hamukaaka trading center said that they later sat and seized the stamp from Barebereho and handed it over to the Village Secretary, Moses Bakeine.
However, the residents were angered by the decision of the Muko Sub County Chief, Rebecca Kehoda to return the stamp to Barebereho.
Led by Wellen Niwamanya Kawedi and Elidad Tibingana, the residents accused Barebereho of corruption and for selling farming equipment that was donated to the village by Self Help Africa, a Non-Government Organisation to help conserve the environment.
The accusations forced Kehoda to withdraw the stamp from Barebereho and said she will report to the Chief Administrative Officer so that he takes the next action. She further told the residents that according to the law, the Vice Chairperson should be given a stamp until the Electoral Commission organizes a new election.
However, Barebereho refuted all the accusations against him by locals.
