At least three people were killed in a tragic accident on Sunday evening in Ntungamo town center. Among the deceased was a hardware business owner from Kagarama town, Ntungamo district, and a driver from Rwanda.
The accident occurred at the Ntungamo-Kabale and Ntungamo-Rukungiri road junction, involving three vehicles: a Fuso Box Body (Reg No. UAN 492S), a Syno-truck (Reg No. UBS 724B), and an unidentified Toyota Wish.
Ntungamo District Police Commander, Mr. Hannington Bushaija, identified the victims as Mr. Musinguzi David, the driver and owner of the Syno-truck, who also owned a hardware store in Kagarama town; Mr. Habomuremye Silvestre, a Rwandan businessman trading in palm oil; and Mr. Sula Kayongo, the driver and owner of the Fuso truck.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred when the Fuso, coming from the Rukungiri side, allegedly failed to brake in time and hit a large hump at the Fuelex Petrol Station. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which was loaded with palm oil (locally known as amamera) from the DRC. In an attempt to avoid colliding with the Toyota Wish, the Fuso rammed into the Sino truck that had just turned off the Kabale highway, causing it to overturn. The Toyota Wish was struck on its side and veered off the road, landing in a trench.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Itojo Hospital. There were no reports of injuries at the time of the press release.
