Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 24-year-old man who was killed by a mob.
The incident occurred in Ncucumo village, Kitwe ward, Rwentuha town council, Bushenyi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Omax Namanya, 24, a builder and resident of Bijenje village, Kyabugimbi sub-county in Bushenyi District.
It is alleged that on May 31, 2024, at about 5:30 AM, Robert Mugabe, the Officer in Charge (OC) of Rwentuha police station, received information about mob action against a suspected chicken thief.
He dispatched a team of police officers to rescue the victim. They found Namanya alive but severely injured and transported him to Kitagata Hospital for medical attention, where he later died.
Tumusiime stated that before his death, Namanya revealed he had been stealing chickens with accomplices Didas and Kayanda, both residents of Kyabugimbi. These accomplices are currently on the run.
