Lubowa Police Station was the scene of chaos on Wednesday after armed soldiers from the Special Forces Command (SFC) allegedly stormed the station, assaulting police officers and civilians and injuring at least five officers.

According to a report by Kajjansi Police Division, the incident began around 2 PM when ASP Sunday Innocent, the Officer-in-Charge, received a call from someone identifying himself as Lt. Samson Amo of the UPDF, demanding the detention of eight suspects from a Lubowa operation.

When ASP Sunday asked for details, Lt. Amo allegedly responded with insults. Minutes later, a military vehicle carrying around 12 armed soldiers arrived at the station, reportedly held police at gunpoint, and physically assaulted both officers and civilians.

Five officers — ASP Sunday Innocent, D/IP Kisa Claire, Sgt. Kabaho, D/Sgt Njose, and D/C Tubwita — were injured and had their phones stolen. The number of injured civilians is unknown as many fled the scene.

The eight suspects brought by the soldiers were found severely beaten, with six admitted to Doctor’s Hospital in Seguku. Lt. Amo reportedly failed to justify the arrests or explain under what authority the operation was conducted.

The Division Police Commander, SP Namutosi Salama, has opened a case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder against Lt. Amo and others. Investigations are underway, and Kampala Metropolitan Police has reinforced Lubowa Station and issued medical forms to victims.

The Uganda Police Force says all those involved will be held accountable, as concerns grow over inter-agency conduct and abuse of power.
