Mr. Deus Muhwezi Rwambikana, a retired Director of Extension Services in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF), has called on the public to safeguard public projects and initiate income-generating activities associated with these initiatives.
He made this appeal on Saturday, January 18, 2024, during the launch of the construction of a bridge he volunteered to support in Rukiri 2 Village, Katomi Ward, Nyamunuka Town Council, Ntungamo District. Mr. Rwambikana emphasized his commitment to championing mindset change and empowering the people of Kajara County through development-oriented projects. He encouraged beneficiaries of public projects to protect these initiatives, make the most of the opportunities they provide, and support his bid for sustained service delivery.
Christine Ayebazibwe, the town agent for Katomi Ward, representing the mayor of Nyamunuka Town Council, commended Mr. Rwambikana for his collaboration with the government to foster development. She assured the community of the local government’s commitment to protecting the bridge and urged residents to prioritize production activities to improve their livelihoods.
Kusaina Magezi Manyasi, the LC2 Chairperson of Katomi Ward, lauded the government for introducing elections, which he said empower voters to benefit directly and evaluate the best candidates. He condemned the divisive tendencies often brought about by politics.
Alfred Matsiko, the LC1 Chairperson of Rukiri 2, welcomed the bridge project, noting the challenges posed by temporary bridges, poor road networks, and the lack of electricity and water in the area.
Mariati Namwangye, an elder in the community, expressed concern over the poor road network, which she said hampers expectant mothers from accessing medical care and affects the transportation of goods. She praised Mr. Rwambikana for his timely and critical support to address these issues.
