Police in Rukungiri are holding one suspect in custody, with another one admitted and a third suspect on the run, over the murder 70-year-old Lawrence Kakonya a resident of Omukibare cell Karangaro ward western division Rukungiri municipality.
The Kigezi region Police spokesman ASP  Elly Maate says the three suspects executed their move on  Saturday 18/02/2023 at around 11:45PM  at the above address.
Maate explains that on 18/02/2023 at around 23:45hrs   a resident identified as Expeditor Wilson who reported the matter to police received a phone call from the telephone number of the deceased which was being used by one of the assailants only identified as Rogers.
The caller reportedly told Expeditor how he had murdered his uncle and that the body is lying in a banana plantation.
According to Maate, the caller who was still using the phone belonging to the deceased revealed that he had been hired by one Scovia Tukwasibwe 35, a granddaughter to the deceased and Iddi Misho 58   the  Lc 2 chairperson of Karangaro ward who is a  friend to Scovia.
Maate says the hired   killer was revealing the information about those who hired him to Murder  Kakonya Lawrence because they had failed to pay him the agreed money for the act and only paid him 1 million out of the 3 he had been promised   

 The late Kakonya has been involved in a land dispute with his granddaughter and a court case had been scheduled for hearing on Monday 20/02/2023.

 According to Maate, Scovia Tukwasiibwe one of the suspects  was rescued from a mob and is currently admitted at Nyakibale hospital under guard, The  body of the deceased was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary pending postmortem and exhibits of the killer weapon, the sharp new panga,  hammer, and clothes stained with blood s were recovered at the secondary crime scene which is Scovia’s house, while the second suspect Iddi Misho was arrested and is currently at Rukungiri CPS while the hunt is on for the third suspect who is alleged to have physically killed the deceased and rung the reporter.
