OBADIA

Despite challenges such as some ungraded candidates in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Rukungiri Municipality has maintained its reputation as one of the best-performing municipalities in Uganda. The municipality registered an impressive 435 pupils in Division One and 696 in Division Two, earning it the fifth position nationwide.

According to Mr. Alfred Mutuuza Katabazi, the Rukungiri Principal Municipal Education Officer, the success is a result of strategic efforts by his office to enhance education in both private and public schools. Katabazi emphasized the importance of discipline, regular meetings, and proper, timely school inspections as key factors in boosting academic performance.

“We are determined to address past challenges and work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve our common goals,” Katabazi stated, adding that efforts to prevent school dropouts include discouraging the practice of beating children.

Meanwhile, Mr. Benard Tumushangye, the Headteacher of Kinyasano Boarding Nursery and Primary School in Rukungiri Municipality, celebrated an impressive 90% of the 136 candidates who sat for the PLE achieving Division One. Tumushangye urged parents to cooperate with school administrators and actively engage in their children’s education to achieve shared success.

“It’s okay for life to continue as long as there’s success ahead,” he said, commending his staff for their teamwork, which has been instrumental in achieving outstanding results.

Laban Akanyijuka, the Director of Studies at Kinyasano Nursery and Primary School, attributed the success to strong cooperation among teachers, parents, and students. Similarly, Onic Ahumuza, a parent from Katwekamwe in Rwentondo, Eastern Division, whose child excelled in Division One, praised the collaborative efforts as the cornerstone of success.

The combined efforts of stakeholders in Rukungiri Municipality continue to demonstrate that unity and strategic planning can overcome challenges and achieve remarkable results in education.
