The Rukungiri Municipality Principal education officer Alfred Katabazi Mutuuza has called upon all Primary Schools in Rukungiri Municipality to always participate in games and sports since it is part of their curriculum according to the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Katabazi made the remarks on Tuesday while officiating at the function and handover of trophies to the municipality primary schools football and netball champions, the function that took place at Kagashe playground in Eastern Division Rukungiri municipality.
Rukungiri Modern primary school from the southern division won the football trophy after hammering Kiyaga primary school 6:4 goals in penalties while Nyakibale Lower Primary School won the netball trophy after defeating Nyakibale upper boarding primary school at the finals.
Katabazi asked the teams that passed through to represent the municipality at the National level to continue training so that they can get better results in the competitions.
He thanked private primary schools for participating in the competitions adding that as the municipality they will sit and see how to support teams that will represent them at the national level.
Henry Byarugaba the Nyakibale Lower Primary School who works as the Rukungiri Municipality Primary Sports Committee chairperson hailed the participants for the discipline exhibited on the pitch ever since the games started at the division level up to the Municipality level.
He added that the two Champion schools will represent Rukungiri at national-level games which will be held in a yet-to-be-identified venue in September this year.
Derick Tugume the Rukungiri modern primary school deputy head teacher who is also in charge of sports said it is a blessing for their school to win a trophy adding that they are ready even to participate in national competitions and perform well.
At the same function, pupils who represented Rukungiri municipality in athletics at the national level received their certificates.
