The Assistant District Internal Security Officer of Rukungiri, Mr. Mugarura Kiiza Jackson, has urged producers of goods and services to prioritize quality for market sustainability.
He delivered this message on Friday, February 21, 2025, while officiating the launch of the Rwerere Kwetambira Insurance Co-operative, an initiative aimed at uniting families to combat hygiene-related diseases and promote sanitation.
The insurance cooperative is supported by the German Co-operative and Raiffeisen Confederation (DGRV) in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives.
Mr. Mugarura encouraged the public to support government programs, form groups to access government aid, and focus on producing high-quality goods and services that are difficult to duplicate, ensuring sustained demand.
Bob Robert Barigye, the Registrar of Cooperatives at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, recognized the cooperative’s positive impact and the trust it has built among members. He pledged to advocate for government support in securing land and equipment for the cooperative’s development and encouraged members to recruit more participants to expand its reach across the district.
Rukungiri District Senior Commercial Officer, Ms. Caroline Atuhaire, applauded the enthusiasm displayed by cooperative members. She emphasized the importance of resilience in improving living standards and advised them to establish vegetable gardens at home to supplement their nutrition.
Catherine Tumusime, Mayor of Rwerere Town Council, expressed appreciation for the positive transformation in public health standards. She thanked the Ministry for selecting Rwerere and urged members to expand their recruitment efforts while maintaining trust in the scheme.
Keleth Bamuhiiga, Chairperson of the insurance cooperative, highlighted the benefits members have gained, including improved access to healthcare and malaria prevention through mosquito-repellent soap and plant-based solutions. He reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and expanding the initiative.
Members praised the cooperative for improving health standards, reducing healthcare expenses, and equipping them with knowledge and skills for household income generation. They reiterated their plans to expand their initiatives and earn dividends in the future.
