Rukungiri district leaders have commended Aunt Jolly’s Nursery and Primary School for its efforts in eradicating ignorance and backwardness through quality education.

During a celebration marking the school’s success in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Rukungiri District Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama praised the institution, which was established in 1990, for its dedication to raising education standards in the district.

Kyomukama described Aunt Jolly’s as a model school, emphasizing its commitment to academic excellence and the development of responsible Ugandans. In the 2024 PLE, the school ranked third in the district with a 97.2% pass rate—a performance Kyomukama said reflects the school’s dedication to quality education. He urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, stressing its transformative power.

According to Mr. Godfrey Mashaija, the school’s director, Aunt Jolly’s Nursery and Primary School was founded in 1990 to address the lack of educational institutions in the area. Over the years, the school has nurtured many Ugandans, many of whom have gone on to hold significant positions in society.

As the third-established private school in Rukungiri district, it was also the first primary school in Nyarushanje sub-county, playing a key role in advancing education in the region. Mashaija assured stakeholders that the school remains committed to maintaining its high standards of education.

The school’s head teacher, Mr. Ndyanabo Erick, revealed that all 36 candidates registered for the 2024 PLE successfully sat their exams. Of these, 35 achieved Division One, while one candidate placed in Division Two, resulting in a 97.2% success rate.

He expressed confidence in the school’s ability to improve further, stating that they are determined to secure the top position in the district next year, having identified the challenges that hindered them from achieving a 100% first-grade pass rate.

Representing Rotarian Steven Nsubuga, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) who was expected to be the guest of honor, Assistant RDC Ms. Kellen Kagisha urged the attendees not to allow politics to divide them. She encouraged them to focus on electing leaders they believe will genuinely work for their community.
