Cooperative societies have been challenged to meet the needs of the communities they serve as they take part in developing the country.

These were part of the remarks made by Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri district chairperson, while addressing members of the Rukungiri farmers SACCO who were this afternoon gathered at Hotel Riverside in Rukungiri Municipality, for their 5th annual general meeting.

Kyomukama said that most SACCOs just target money for their own good without considering developing the communities in which they are established.

He said that SACCOs should be supporting communities, through education, and health, among others,  

Keith Ainebyoona the Rukungiri district commercial officer said that most SACCOs in Rukungiri are being let down by members who engage in multiple borrowing.

Patience, Atuhaire unveiled a new product in the Sacco that will avail irrigation facilities to interested members 

She also said the Sacco will supplement the government’s efforts to boost the conservation of the environment.

Every member that attended the AGM was given a fruit tree.

Rukungiri farmers SACCO has a total of 1026 members.

An external audit report read by James Katono from Dickson associates that audited the SACCO last year, indicated that  the performance of the SACCO in 2022 was better than the 2021 performance .

Katono attributed the good performance  to proper management
