Drama ensued on Monday at Rukungiri district headquarters after the district Education Officer fought with the district inspector of schools accusing her of not remitting allowances for the UNEB registration.
According to the source who preferred anonymity, the fight happened on Monday after the district Education officer Mr. Turyahumura Jackson called the district inspector of schools Lydia Tushemerirwe in an abrupt meeting to account for the money which was intended to pay those who participated in the UNEB registration exercise.
The district Education officer accused the inspector of swindling this money which she refuted saying that her office is not the one to account for it but rather the Rukungiri district Association of Headteachers which was responsible for this exercise.
After a moment of exchanging verbal statements, District Education Officer Jackson grabbed Tushemerirwe and started beating her joined by junior inspector U4 Aidah Gumisiriza.
According to another source, though Lydia never sustained physical injuries, she sustained psychological injuries and chest pain due to the humiliation she got from the district Education officer.
According to the sources, the inspector and the District Education Officer have been at loggerheads accusing each other of mismanagement but some say that the whole story is rotating on kickbacks received from schools.
It is also believed that the district education officers never wanted Lydia to be appointed the inspector of schools after realizing that she will not allow him to solicit bribes from school heads, which sparked the hunt started.
Efforts to get a comment from the District Education Officer Turyahumura Jackson, were futile by the time of writing this, as our repeated calls were not answered.
