Rukungiri District Local Government on Tuesday awarded a contract to Kinombe-Nyaruzinga Construction Company to build Bikurungu Seed Secondary School in Kanyankwanzi Cell, Eastern Ward, Bikurungu Town Council, Rujumbura County, Rukungiri District.

According to Karuhanga Nicholas, the Rukungiri District Civil Engineer, the total project cost is 1.94 billion Ugandan shillings. The project will include three classroom blocks, two science laboratory blocks, an administration block, a two-unit teachers’ house for four teachers, a kitchen, latrines for boys, latrines for girls, and staff latrines.

Karuhanga stated that the project is expected to be completed in 18 months and will be ready for operation. He emphasized that the district works department is committed to closely monitoring the project to ensure quality.

Eng. Nshabire Godfrey, the Director of Kinombe-Nyaruzinga Construction Company Limited, said he has extensive experience working on large government projects. He pledged to ensure the construction of a high-quality facility that will last for many years.

Wallen Kajuna, the Mayor of Bikurungu Town Council, praised the Ugandan government for selecting Bikurungu for such an important project. He noted that it would make education more accessible to parents in Bikurungu. Kajuna shared that the community had been advocating for a seed school for years, but the lack of land delayed the project. Eventually, the community raised funds to purchase the land where the school will be built.

Bikurungu Seed Secondary School will be the first seed school in the history of Rujumbura County.

The event was attended by the Rukungiri Chief Administrative Officer, Hajj Swaliki Masokoi Wasswa, who encouraged parents to support the seed school and use it to educate their children, helping to eradicate ignorance and backwardness. He described the project as a symbol of development and urged the community to plan ahead, such as starting businesses to supply food to the school or building rental properties for teachers and staff.

Kellen Kagisha, the Assistant RDC of Rukungiri, urged the people of Bikurungu to express gratitude to the Ugandan government for its commitment to supporting education. She also mentioned the government’s plan to support Rwerere Town Council, which is currently the only town council in the district without a secondary school.

Kagisha also discussed the importance of choosing leaders based on their merits, not on politics, religion, or tribe.
