Residents of Rukanga Parish in Nyabihoko Sub-county, Kajara County, Ntungamo District, have expressed their gratitude to the sub-county leadership for successfully completing road construction in their area.

Speaking to our reporter, Moses Tusingwire, the LC1 Chairperson of Rukanga East, revealed that before the road was constructed, it was extremely difficult for motorcycles and vehicles to navigate, making transportation a major challenge. He thanked the Nyabihoko leaders for prioritizing their community and extending these much-needed services. He acknowledged that although community efforts through Burungi Bwansi had contributed to maintaining some sections, they could not fully cover the entire stretch from St. John’s Primary School in Nyakongoro to Nyamunuka Town Council.

John Rwakabayanga, the LC2 Chairperson of Rukanga Parish, noted that the road now connects five villages to key institutions, including Nyabihoko Seed School, primary schools in Nyakongoro Town, and social centers along the main road from Rwashamaire Town to Kyafoora in Rushenyi County. He expressed appreciation to the sub-county leadership, led by LC3 Chairperson Laban Besigwa and other councilors, for their dedication to improving service delivery in Nyabihoko. With the new road, residents now have better access to transport networks.

Kasimu Sebayinda, the LC3 Councilor representing Rukanga Parish and Vice Chairperson of Nyabihoko Sub-county, stated that Nyabihoko receives UGX 8 million annually from the Road Fund. These funds support road maintenance and construction across the sub-county. However, he noted that this amount is insufficient given the vastness of Nyabihoko. He credited teamwork among the leaders for the progress made in extending essential services to the people.

Despite these achievements, Kasimu highlighted a major challenge—some residents resist road construction through their land. He urged the public to support and actively participate in public works, emphasizing that improved infrastructure benefits the entire community. Better roads facilitate the transportation of goods such as bananas and coffee to markets, enhance access to healthcare and schools, and support the extension of essential services like electricity and water supply.

Additionally, Kasimu pointed out that Nyabihoko is still struggling with bridge construction. However, the district leadership has pledged support, following the example of LC5 Chairperson Samuel Rwakigomba Salongo, who facilitated the construction of a bridge at Kifunjo. He reassured the residents of Rukanga Parish and Nyabihoko Sub-county that more bridges will be built according to the sub-county’s budget plan.
