The Rubanda District Vice Chairperson, Hon. Prossy Kesafari, has emphasized the need for girls to embrace Information and Communication Technology (ICT) studies to remain competitive in today’s technology-driven world.
Speaking on Tuesday at the launch of the construction of a computer laboratory at St. Agatha Girls’ Secondary School in Kakore, Hamurwa, Rubanda District, Kesafari highlighted that Uganda’s rapid technological advancement requires girls to acquire digital skills. She urged the government to allocate more funds toward ICT education for girls, noting that many aspects of life, including job applications, interviews, and travel documentation, are now conducted online.

The UGX 470 million computer laboratory, which is currently 65% complete, is being constructed by Archcivil Contractors and Builders Ltd. The project contractor and director, Eng. Anatoli Mucunguzi, assured that the construction is on track and is expected to be completed and handed over by May 7, 2026.

The launch was presided over by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Rubanda, Eric Ssewandigi, who underscored the importance of ensuring quality work. He called on the headteacher, Mr. Kereson Katongole, to remain vigilant, emphasizing that his role is crucial in overseeing the project’s success and ensuring accountability for the allocated funds.

Katongole commended the Government of Uganda and the Rubanda District leadership, led by Steven Kasyaba Ampeire, for prioritizing ICT education at St. Agatha Girls’ SS. He noted that the new facility would help decongest classrooms, create more learning space for A’ Level students, and enhance the school’s overall infrastructure and appearance.

The construction of the laboratory is expected to provide a state-of-the-art facility to equip students with essential digital skills, preparing them for the evolving job market and technological landscape.
