Residents of Taba, Buhayo, and Kanyamegeri in Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro District, have received essential relief aid from the Office of the Prime Minister in response to the perilous situation on Taba Hill in Mbuga Parish, Nyakinama Sub County.
The hill has experienced significant cracks, posing a serious threat to the safety of the local population.
After conducting a comprehensive assessment of the situation at Taba Hill, officials from the Office of the Prime Minister urged the residents to cease all cultivation activities on the hill.
They advised the community to await the government’s plans for relocating them to a more secure area. The effects of the substantial cracks on Taba Hill have been devastating, leading to the destruction of homes and crops for numerous residents.

A donation of 20,000 kilograms of maize flour (Posho) and 10,000 kilograms of beans was allocated to aid the residents.
The distribution of relief supplies was organized based on the level of impact experienced by each household.
The households that were most severely affected, totaling eight in Taba village, were granted 100 kilograms of maize flour and 50 kilograms of beans each.
Meanwhile, those with less significant impact in Taba village received 50 kilograms of maize flour and 25 kilograms of beans per household. Similarly, households in Buhayo village (Mbuga Parish) and Kanyamegeri village (Chihe Parish) received 20 kilograms of maize flour and 10 kilograms of beans each.
Overseeing the distribution of relief supplies, Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi emphasized the collaborative efforts between the district leadership and the Office of the Prime Minister.
He highlighted that the local authorities had formally appealed to the OPM for support to assist the affected residents in Taba village and its vicinity.
Ssekandi advised the recipients to use the provided relief aid to nourish their families and cautioned against selling the essential supplies.
This collective effort aims to alleviate the immediate challenges faced by the communities and ensure the well-being of all residents during this challenging time.
