The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo has asked the beneficiaries in government programs who failed to pay back, to either pay or else wait for jail.
He was on Tuesday officiating at the one-day workshop organized to sensitize beneficiaries of the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) and Youth Livelihood program on proper utilization of funds received, recovery, and disbursement of the revolving fund, group dynamics, and challenges to improve their standards of living in a function held at Rukungiri Municipal Council hall.
Four groups united under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) received 33,498,000 Uganda shillings and others united under the Youth Livelihood program received 47,528,000 Uganda shillings.
Bewayo noted that ever since Youth Livelihood and UWEP programs commence in Rukungiri Municipality, Youth Livelihood program beneficiaries have received over 220 million and no single coin has been paid back whereas UWEP beneficiaries have received over 360 million.
He disclosed that his office has received a directive from the president to recover the revolving fund 100 percent and therefore reminded the defaulters to pay and avoid embarrassment.
The Mayor Rukungiri Municipal Council His worship Charles Makuru urged beneficiaries to stop failing the government in recovering the money especially the youth who spent this money on a luxurious life.
Deputy Town Clerk Tagobya Prosper also challenged the beneficiaries to follow the set guidelines and stop failing programs.
The Rukungiri Municipality Community Development officer Nassazi Hilda revealed that her office so far has 41 Youth Livelihood program groups and 48 UWEP groups fully registered and warned them not to borrow the money if they can’t manage paying it back.
