Kanungu police have launched an investigation into the death of Emmanuel Kasheija, 55, a resident of Kanungu Cell in Kanungu Town Council. Kasheija was found dead in his home on the morning of January 11, 2025, under unclear circumstances.
According to preliminary reports, Kasheija, who lived alone, was a known drunkard and had a history of epilepsy. He was last seen on January 10, 2025, during the day at a nearby bar, reportedly intoxicated, by his daughter, Akankwasa Phiona. Phiona, who operates a bar in her father’s house, discovered his lifeless body lying against the bed with the door open when she returned the next morning.
She immediately informed her aunt, Kyokusiima Alice, who reported the matter to the police.
The scene was visited by authorities, and a postmortem examination was conducted. The body was handed over to the family for burial. Investigators recovered blood-stained clothes, believed to belong to the deceased, from a nearby bush. One suspect has been arrested to assist with the investigation.
Kanungu Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding Kasheija’s death.
