The territorial police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 87-year-old John Byomuhangi, a resident of Kiruruma Cell, Rushaka Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county.
According to preliminary reports, Byomuhangi fell ill on 26th April 2025 at around 2:00 PM after attending a party at the home of a neighbor, identified as Kyampire Mebro. Witnesses allege that guests were served food from a shared dish, and shortly after eating, Byomuhangi complained of severe stomach pain.
Efforts to rush him to the hospital were unsuccessful, as he passed away on the way. His body was later taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. Relevant samples have been collected for forensic analysis at the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL), and a case report was filed at Kihihi Police Station.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, urged the deceased’s relatives to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation instead of demanding the immediate arrest of Kyampire, emphasizing that a thorough investigation is necessary to establish the true cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing.
