RUBANDA: A hit-and-run accident in Rubanda district last evening left two dead and another critically injured.
The accident occurred at Mukitengye cell, Bubaare sub-county, along the Kabale-Kisoro highway in Rubanda district.
The accident involved a motorcycle with registration number UDU 440T Bajaji Boxer and a yet-to-be-identified motor vehicle.
The deceased include Prosper Tayebwe (34) a resident of Kanyabitara cell, Hamurwa town council, Rubanda district, and Julius Muhumuza (18), a resident of Gwamugura cell, Kakore parish, in Hamurwa sub-county, Rubanda district.
A female survivor, who is yet to be identified, was rushed to Kabale Regional referral hospital by good samaritans.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate has confirmed the development saying that from the eye witness, the two bodies were found on the road and their motorcycle aside.
On checking them, one was identified as Prosper who was already dead; the other two were still alive but seriously injured.
One of the victims was rushed to Kakore HC11, where he later died, however, the woman was taken to Kabale Hospital by another good Samaritan.
Maate says that the three seem to have been on the same motorcycle and hit by a motor vehicle that was heading to Kabale but was not seen or identified.
He added that both bodies and the motorcycle were whisked away by their relatives, but efforts to have a postmortem done and the motorcycle recovered are underway.
