Residents of Nyarwimuka parish, Ruhinda subcounty, Rukungiri District decry over electricity shortage in their area.

It is reported that the poles pass through the nearby areas like Bikurungu and Bugangari, leaving the Ruhinda community struggling with the problem of electricity shortages, lowering their income business-wise.

Speaking to our reporter, Vice Chairperson LC1 Ihiindiro cell, Johnson Tugamuhangye said they have never seen electricity services in Nyarwimuka, saying business personnel that depend on electricity like salons and welding have been let down.

He further expressed frustration, saying they have been neglected as Nyarwimuka, feeling as if they are not Ugandans, calling upon their leaders to take action and provide them with electricity services and other social services.

Fausta Tumuhimbise, a resident of Nyarwimuka as well, expressed her concerns on the problem of electricity shortages, saying they send their leaders to see change in their area in terms of service delivery but that they’re totally disappointed as Nyarwimuka, saying for electricity services they only see it in the neighborhood.

She further highlighted that this has promoted theft in their area due to the darkness, saying they however see different people who come and tour the place claiming they are going to provide them with electricity but nothing has been done.

Another resident of Nyarwimuka known as Christmas Rwangyeyo as well expressed his frustration, saying poles only pass through Kyomera cell. He said when it comes to welding, they have to first go to Bikurungu, which is a distance away from their area, letting down businesses in the area.

He further said electricity shortage has highly promoted theft and unemployment in the area, whereby they would start up small small businesses to earn a living, calling out the government to intervene and provide them with electricity services.

Speaking to the Chairperson LC5 Rukungiri District, Geoffrey Kyomukama said as leaders they’re aware about the problem in the area and confirmed that within a period of two weeks there will be light not only in Nyarwimuka but Ruhinda subcounty at large to solve the mentioned above effects of electricity shortages in the area.
