Authorities in Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District, have raised concerns over the poor state of infrastructure in four primary schools.
According to Wednesday Twinomujuni, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyakishenyi Sub County, the most affected schools—Kisya, Bugarama, Nyarubale, and Kigarama—have dilapidated facilities.
Twinomujuni highlighted the scarcity of government-funded buildings in these schools, despite multiple petitions to the Education Department, and called for urgent intervention.
Joseph Byamugisha, the PTA Chairperson of Kigarama Primary School in Ngoma Parish, acknowledged the school’s reliance on an office and a four-classroom block built by former Nyakishenyi Catholic Parish priest, Father Lauben Mubangizi. He also noted that the only toilet facility was constructed by the government, while enrollment continues to grow, supported by a committed teaching staff.
Denis Tukimusimire, the head teacher of Kigarama Primary School, expressed concern over the school’s inadequate and deteriorating infrastructure. He emphasized the challenges faced by the school, which serves a hard-to-reach area with economically disadvantaged parents, and appealed for immediate support.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the Education Department were unsuccessful.
