A section of councilors in the Ntungamo district council have demanded expanded investigations into abuse and misuse of funds in district departments that are not covered by the current investigation into the health department that is currently being probed by the state house monitoring team.
The team of councilors yesterday met officials from the Statehouse Unit led by Dr Warren Namara at Ankole resort Hotel and said that while they were satisfied with the investigations into the misused of funds in the health service, there was need to expand the graft probe to other departments like production and education where a lot of dust is expected to be uncovered.
The Ntungamo sub county councilor Mr Naboth Mpirirwe said while investigations have unearthed rot in the health department, other key departments remain
. He noted that these issues have remained hidden from the district council and other investigators
The Nyarutuntu sub county councilor Mr Pius Niwagaba thanked the team for fighting graft but noted that a lot will be left uncovered if other district departments are not probed
The Ngoma sub county councilor Mr Justus Bataringaya said the investigations will help their council weed out impunity and cause change in service delivery.
The team on Wednesday started investigating Itojo hospital and Ntungamo health training institute The Itojo hospital administrator and a senior medical officer there were arrested as part of the probe.
