The Community Development Officer Bwizibwera Rutooma town Council in Kashari South Mbarara district Mr. Afrikano Habomugisha has requested the NGOs to cooperate with community leaders to provide records with statistics of the vulnerable children who are engaged in child labor and sexual abuse activities.
Habomugisha sounded the call while meeting local stakeholders of Bwizibwera Rutooma town council at Bwizibwera Rutooma town council offices in Kashari south Mbarara district who were being sensitized on how to identify and report on issues concerning the vulnerable girl children in communities
It was revealed that such vulnerable girl children need to be assisted and guided on how they can enjoy healthy and economic growth by participating in government-aided programs such as youth livelihood, the presidential initiative on wealth and job creation Emyooga, and the current Parish Development Model PDM program.
Habomugisha urged parents and community leaders to guide both girl and boy children on how to participate legally in government-funded programs to generate income without their human rights being violated.
Habomugisha says it’s unfortunate to find that some young girls below eighteen years are managers in local bars, restaurants, pool tables, and lodges where they are being used as commercial sex workers which he says is not accepted by the government policies.
He requested the government to facilitate social workers and local leaders through sensitization programs to be able to conduct mobilization and sensitization activities at the community level to control school dropouts and find causes of the challenges and create a peaceful and more productive society with less crime rate.
