Former Uganda Investment Authority Chairman Morrison Rwakakamba has donated 100 bags of cement to Rwabihurwa Primary School in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, in a move aimed at restoring the glory of one of the region’s oldest and most historic schools.

Rwakakamba, an old boy of Rwabihurwa Primary School, made the donation during a thanksgiving ceremony organized by the school’s Old Boys and Girls Association at Mutaturwa Church of Uganda. The function, led by Rev. Nshabaruhanga Montilive of the North Kigezi Diocese, brought together parents, pupils, alumni, and church leaders.

In total, over UGX 10 million in cash and pledges, along with 173 bags of cement, were raised to support the school’s rehabilitation. Rwakakamba also mobilized over UGX 1.9 million from fellow alumni, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the institution that helped shape their futures.

“We owe it to the school that laid our foundation. Supporting it is not charity—it’s responsibility,” said Rwakakamba. He also thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for establishing a Seed Secondary School in Nyeibingo Parish, noting that Rwabihurwa Primary would be a major feeder school to the new institution.

Other notable contributions included UGX 1 million and a pledge of iron sheets from Rubabo County parliamentary hopeful David Tushabomwe Ndindirize, and 30 bags of cement from fellow aspirant Matthias Rwabugumi.

Headteacher Ms. Glorious Natamba commended the alumni’s efforts, highlighting that the school, established in 1955 by the late Canon Peter Rwabihurwa, was once the pride of Uganda. In 1965, 175 out of 224 pupils passed in First Grade, ranking the school best in the country.

Now government-aided since 1975, the school has produced numerous distinguished personalities, including former Rukungiri LC5 Chairman Katono Karokora, Prisons Commissioner Apollo Akankunda Bakwate, NRM Rukungiri district General Secretary Paul Rukundo and journalist Robert Mugabe, among others.

The rehabilitation project is expected to restore Rwabihurwa Primary School’s status as a center of academic excellence in Greater Kebisoni.
