The Kanungu district chairperson Eng. Sam Arineitwe Kajojo has asked the minister of energy and mineral development Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa to help the district look for a possible solution to overcome the constant power outage greatly affecting businesses in Kanungu.

Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa visited Kanungu district together with the Archbishop of the province of the church of Uganda the Most Rev Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu at the grand opening of St Francis Kakureiju church of Uganda in Kyeshero sub-County.

Eng. Sam Kajojo told the minister that the challenge of power outage has affected the production of tea, coffee, rice, and other factories.

He reminded the minister of the government’s proposal of switching the Ishasha power dam to high voltage mode to benefit the people of Kanungu which is still pending.

The Kanungu district woman MP Hon Patience Kinshaba Nkunda also said power going on and off has destabilized businesses especially those that depend on power and have now resorted to costly generators.

In response, Hon. Nankabirwa promised to find time and return to Kanungu to clearly understand the challenges to find a possible solution before commissioning the newly connected power lines.

Nakabirwa promised to send her technical team from the Ministry of Energy to make a report ahead of her next visit so that the power challenges can be sorted out in Kanungu
