NAMIREMBE:

The Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Rev Canon William Ongeng has advised male gender champions to emulate the life of Jesus Christ who treated women with respect and dignity.

He further charged them to be role models in the communities they live in for other men to learn from them on how to conduct their lives.

Canon Ongeng made the remarks while closing the review meeting of male gender champions at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe, Kampala today.

He highlighted the need to ensure more men are brought on board because gender issues are not only a women’s issue but a human issue.

He reiterated the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu’s charge on the need to focus on mentorship and guidance of the boy child for the protection of the girl child and the women.

The Provincial Secretary acknowledged and appreciated the Partnership between Church of Uganda and Dan Church Aid [DCA], especially in the cause of Gender Justice

Church of Uganda male gender champions gathered today to review the impact of their engagement and to strategize on how to strengthen the collaboration among male gender champions as agents of change for transformative masculinity.

Ms. Irene Anena, the program Officer Gender, and Social Justice appreciated the commitment of the male champions in advancing gender Justice through their faith spaces since 2018.

Rev Andrew Agaba the Director for Household and Community Transformation (HCT) emphasized the need for male champions to be exemplary to other men in their communities.

About the male gender champions?
Church of Uganda male gender champions draw a group of men and boys from different professions and are trained as agents of changed for transformative masculinity.

They are committed to advancing gender equality and voluntarily engage through their faith spaces in their communities through dialogue with fellow men, bible studies, couple reflection sessions to improve gender relations, counseling to survivors of GBV and referrals.

They also provide mentorship and guidance to young men and boys as a strategy to see the movement grow.

In the Same Meeting, Mr. MARTIN Sabiiti Rwabihurwa was elected as the Chairman for Church of Uganda – Male Gender Champions, David Nsubuga as the Secretary and Ordinand Benson AMANYA as the Secretary for Mobilization.
