Makerere University School of Law has today, March 1, 2025, awarded diplomas to 26 students who successfully completed a 10-week short course in Administrative Officers’ Law. The course was conducted at Gables Vocational Training Center in Rukungiri Municipality, which served as their study center.

All 26 students completed the program and were awarded diplomas in Administrative Officers’ Law.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Benson Tusasirye, Head of the Department of Public and Comparative Law, who represented the Dean of the School of Law at Makerere University, noted that the graduates included civil servants and staff from various Non-Governmental Organizations. The course covered both theoretical and practical aspects, including Introduction to Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Authorities, Administrative Procedures, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure.

Dr. Tusasirye emphasized that the course equips students with knowledge to regulate the powers and actions of public authorities, particularly in their interactions with citizens. He encouraged the public to consider enrolling in such professional development programs to enhance workplace performance. He also commended Gables Vocational Training Center for providing a conducive learning environment, serving students from Rukungiri, Kanungu, Mitooma, and parts of Ntungamo.

The Principal of Gables Vocational Training Center, Mr. Abel Byabagambi Bashome, congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply the knowledge they had acquired. He highlighted the center’s partnership with Makerere University in offering the Administrative Officers’ Law course, a two-and-a-half-month program that serves multiple districts, including Rukungiri, Kanungu, Mitooma, and parts of Ntungamo.

He encouraged more professionals to enroll in the course, emphasizing its importance in ensuring lawful and effective administration.

One of the graduates, Agatha Kebirungi, the Principal Nursing Officer at Nyakibale Hospital, expressed her gratitude for the course, stating that it had significantly enhanced her administrative skills. She noted that it broadened her understanding of legal aspects related to workplace management.

Kebirungi also shared that many of the graduates felt a deep sense of achievement, as some had never received academic credentials from Makerere University before.

Jusper Tukamuhebwa, the class guild president and Human Resource Officer in Kanungu under the CAO’s office, along with Kiconco Emily, the vice guild president and Ntungamo District Community Development Officer, praised the program for equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to execute their duties professionally.

They expressed appreciation to all those who supported them throughout their studies and commended Gables Vocational Training Center for its supportive learning environment.

Among the graduates were Frank Turyagyenda, the Rukungiri Municipal Town Agent for Western Division, and Yafesi Akampurira, the Community Development Officer (CDO) for Kihihi Subcounty, along with several other civil servants.
