STAFF REPORTER

Kajungu Jackson Besiima, the LC3 Councilor for Rushasha Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rujumbura County, Rukungiri District, has raised his concerns over the government’s failure to pay his salary for the past two years, amounting to UGX 840,000.

Jackson expressed his dissatisfaction with not receiving his payments, while other councilors have been paid monthly. He stressed that there is no reason why his payments have been delayed.

Jackson further revealed that he has written several letters to the Nyakagyeme Sub County leadership, who assured him that they would forward his letters to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Rukungiri District. However, after six months, he has yet to receive any feedback. He also mentioned that he had reached out to the deputy CAO of Rukungiri, who advised him to write a letter detailing the amount owed to him by the government.

Pamela Kyokutamba, the sub-county Chief of Nyakagyeme Sub County, confirmed Jackson’s claims about the lack of salary payments. She acknowledged that fellow councilors have expressed concern over Jackson’s situation.

Pamela informed our reporter that a council meeting is scheduled for Friday, where Jackson’s issues will be presented. The Nyakagyeme Sub County Council plans to write a letter addressing his concerns, which will then be submitted to the CAO of Rukungiri District.

However, Swalikh Wasswa Masokoyi, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Rukungiri District, expressed his dismay over the matter. He stated that he had not been informed of any councilor’s salary complaints and that no chief had ever presented such a claim to his office.

Masokoyi urged Jackson to write a letter and deliver it directly to his office. He sympathized with Jackson’s situation but emphasized that concerns should be presented directly to his office rather than through intermediaries.
