Students have been urged to engage themselves in sports activities to show their talents and make their memories fresh to concentrate on their books for better academic results.
These remarks were made by the Guest of Honour and Chairman PTA Henry Ngatiireyo at the annual sports day celebration at Kyamakanda Secondary School.
He further warned students not to become warriors in making strikes, taking tobacco and alcohol, forgetting the reason they were sent to Kyamakanda Secondary School by their parents. He urged them to keep disciplined in order to produce a very good melody, just like playing the keyboard when played well.
Students participated in various sports activities like athletics, shot put, triple jump, javelin and many others. At the end of the competitions, Earthmarc House won with 394 points followed by Marstar with 392 points.
The Headteacher of Kyamakanda Secondary School, David Turyamusima Kapiira, while addressing the students, thanked them for the discipline portrayed, saying these sports activities help them spot students with different talents and help them to develop those talents.
He further thanked students for the discipline and advised them to engage themselves in various sports, saying that as they get out, schools are recommended in various higher institutions and jobs as well.
Chairman Board of Governors Kyamakanda Secondary School and Mayor of Kebisoni Town Council, Mugabe Alex Nathan, thanked the headteacher for the calmness in the school and the students as well for keeping the agreement of being disciplined throughout.
He further gave a vote of thanks, saying they have the best students in Rukungiri, giving credit to the headteacher and urging them to keep the standard. He said these physical activities help them keep fresh in mind and focus on their academics as well, challenging them that at 50 years of age, he has gone back to school.
Games teacher at Kyamakanda Secondary School, Moses Akampa, thanked the administration led by the headteacher, Board of Governors and PTA for funding the day and making it a success. He said as a matter of fact, they are very much ready for the athletics district competitions this Saturday.
He further urged students to engage themselves in different sports activities, saying they are of great importance as they join higher institutions of learning, attaining bursaries and job opportunities in the near future as a source of living.
Tokamanya Godfrey, sportsman of the day, and Amumpire Mellon, an S.3 student and sportswoman of the day, expressed happiness over the gifts received, thanking the administration for actively supporting them to grow their talents. They said these sports activities help them stay motivated to do their best.
They further urged their fellow students to engage in different sports activities, saying they help them stay physically fit, grow their talents, and get sponsorships.
