A total of 4.8 billion of Parish Development Model funds has been disbursed to beneficiaries in Kisoro District according to Hajji Badru Mayanja, the District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
According to Mayanja, the District received 6 billion from the Central Government. Mayanja revealed this yesterday during a lavish luncheon to recognize and appreciate the exceptional efforts of Parish Chiefs in mobilizing and disbursing the parish development funds.
The Luncheon, held at the esteemed and opulent Ikoro Hotel in Nyakabande Sub County, was a grand affair to celebrate the remarkable achievements of these dedicated chiefs and inspire others to excel in their roles.
In an interview with Our Reporter, CAO Mayanja expressed his gratitude to the 16 Parish Chiefs out of 65 in the entire district who had successfully disbursed 100% of the PDM funds to the rightful beneficiaries. He acknowledged that the PDM project did not have provisions for additional allowances to reward these chiefs and agents, so he personally chose to appreciate their outstanding performance by using a portion of his July salary.
Among the top-performing chiefs, Jemima Mujawimana of southern Rukundo ranked first, followed by Gloria of Bugara ward in Mupaka town council, and Iyaremye Wilson of Buhozi in Busanza Sub County.
Hajji Badru emphasized that the PDM funds had seen a total disbursement of over 4.8 billion shillings across Kisoro district. He expressed his satisfaction that most of the Parish Chiefs had managed to disburse more than 70% of the total funds received into the parish Sacco bank accounts. He also pledged to provide similar appreciation and motivation to other Parish Chiefs who successfully disburse all the PDM money to the right beneficiaries.
Furthermore, CAO Mayanja urged Parish Chiefs who were facing difficulties in adhering to the PDM guidelines to avoid hasty decisions and instead learn from their successful counterparts. He warned that an investigation would be conducted on Parish Chiefs whose citizens had not yet benefited from the project, and if found incapable of their responsibilities, they would be asked to step aside.
The Kisoro District LCV Chairman, Abel Bizimana, commended the Parish Chiefs for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to use this motivation to redouble their efforts in supporting the CAO. He urged the entire district to cooperate fully with the media in implementing the PDM project.
Meanwhile, the Kisoro Deputy RDC, Robert Tukamuhebwa, cautioned the Parish Chiefs against engaging in any corrupt practices such as soliciting bribes, as they could face legal consequences.
He also urged the CAO to withdraw duties from Parish Chiefs who failed to perform their responsibilities effectively.
