The territorial police in Kanungu are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 60-year-old Speria Mbabazi, a resident of Kasiizi village, Muramba parish, Rutenga sub-county, Kanungu district.

It is alleged that on May 26, 2024, at around 19:00 hours, Mbabazi left Kakyere trading center and, while on her way home about 150 meters from her residence, was ambushed and strangled to death with a piece of cloth.

It is suspected that she was carrying money, having recently sold part of her land for 2 million UGX. She had been seen with her 34-year-old biological son, Abel Tusasibwe, at the trading center buying clothes and other items.

The police were notified and promptly visited the scene with a sniffer dog, which managed to track down two suspects.

These suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody to assist with the investigation.

A postmortem examination was conducted, and the body was handed over to relatives for a proper burial. Inquiries are ongoing.
