Kanungu district yesterday held a budget conference at the district Council Hall with a theme PROMOTION OF COMMERCIAL, AGRICULTURE, INDUSTRIAL, MARKET ACCESS FOR INCLUSIVE GROWTH, EMPLOYMENT AND WEALTH CREATION”

The budget estimates are 50,047,365,000 (Fifty billion fourty seven million three hundred and sixty five thousand shillings) of which 1,432,267,000 (one billion four hundred and thirty two million two hundred and sixty seven thousand shillings will be locally raised revenue while (48,050,301,000=)Fourty eight billion fifty million three hundred and one thousand shillings will be from the central government.

This was revealed by Eng. Arinaitwe Sam Kajojo while giving a key note address at the opening of the budget conference of Kanungu district.

Eng. Sam Kajojo expressed worry that the biggest percentage of the resource envelope will be from the central government.

He pledged that the district will follow the principals of cordination and collaboration with all stake holders, inclusiveness and equity in all processes of planning, budgeting and implementation to ensure balanced development, prioritisation that is evidence based, participation, transparency and accountability throughout the next year budgeting and execution.

Tweheyo David Betega Chief Administrative Officer Kanungu called for more efforts to increase and mobilise more resources locally to reduce the gap between the government transfers and locally raised revenue.

The budget conference kick starts a budgeting process and communicates the budget strategy and priorities for the coming financial year and also reviews the budget performance for the ending financial year.

In attendance was district Councillors, Sub- County and Town Council Chairpersons, heads of departments, Town clerks, Sub-County Chiefs and development partners.
