Today, during the closing ceremony of the Kakindo Tukwatanise Saving and Loans Mobile Catering Association, members were urged to work harder to overcome poverty.
The association, which started in 2009 with 23 members under the Rukungiri Farmers Association (RUDFA) format, has grown significantly over the past 15 years. Initially, members saved 500 UGX per week, but today, the association boasts 98 million UGX in savings, a coffee and banana garden, and a thriving mobile catering project. They have also supported members with events like parties and burial ceremonies.
Chairperson Mr. Twijikye Wilber emphasized the association’s goal of fighting poverty and promoting unity. He highlighted the progress made, including the purchase of bodabodas and the expansion of membership to include residents from Bugangari and Kyabureere Parishes. However, he criticized issues like family fights, domestic violence, and laziness among members. To address these challenges, the association has invited LC1 chairpersons to monitor members’ behavior and hold lawbreakers accountable.
Association Secretary Kanyesigye Moses praised the initiative for transforming ignorant residents into savers and urged members to support government programs like Burungi Bwansi and the Parish Development Model (PDM). He also encouraged members to engage in income-generating activities like coffee farming and catering.
Rev. Medius Twinomugisha commended the association’s achievements and supported its rules against alcoholism, domestic violence, and idleness. She urged married couples to cooperate for community development.
Bugangari GISO Onzo Kakesa praised the members for their organization and urged them to remain committed to development. He warned against misusing association funds and excessive alcoholism, while encouraging participation in the PDM program.
Representing the Gomborora Chief, Bugangari Subcounty CDO Tusingwiire Florence emphasized cooperation and the need to avoid domestic violence for community development.
During the ceremony, 345 million UGX was shared among members, with the highest joint membership receiving 21 million UGX and the lowest receiving 99,000 UGX. The association aims to grow from its current level to a SACCO, continuing its mission to fight poverty and promote development.
