Hon. Professor Ephraim Kamuntu, the former Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has urged the police to cultivate public trust and defend the reputation of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government, which is dedicated to peace and justice.
He made the call today, Wednesday, 12th March 2025, while addressing mourners at the funeral service of the late Patrick Kanwa in Nyakibere 2 cell, Kasaana East Parish, Kasaana Sub County, Sheema District. Kanwa was murdered on Sunday, 9th March 2025.
Professor Kamuntu expressed concern over the murder of Patrick Kanwa and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest the suspects, emphasizing the core mission of the NRM government as promoting peace and justice among the population.
Hon. Arthur Atuhwereire Kazoora, the Managing Director of the Kazoora Foundation and prospective Member of Parliament for Ruhinda South, condemned the murder of an innocent person and assured that the death would be protested by the clan elders in the matter of clan succession.
Rev. Canon Arthur Twine, the Archdeacon of Kitagata, in his sermon, urged parents to prioritize Christianity and education, attributing the increasing number of murders to paganism and illiteracy.
Ms. Jemima Tumwijukye Buhanda, the Chairperson LC5 of Sheema District, consoled the deceased’s family and condemned the murder as ungodly and punishable.
Elidard Mwesigye, the Chairperson LC3 of Kasaana, commended the public for refraining from mob justice and advocated for trust in the government to arrest the suspects for justice, noting that investigations are progressing without fail.
Badira Beatrice, the widow, described the death as a shock and clarified that her husband lived a humble life and believed in God’s judgment.
Abel Musinguzi Bemanyisa, the nephew of the deceased, expressed concern over a brother from his extended family killing his uncle. He also noted that his parents refused to mourn their relative and demanded satisfactory justice from the authorities.
Pastor Benson Rwakaikara, the older son, described his late father as a distinguished parent and family man, who died in his nature. He appealed to the public to avoid gossip and rely on the government for justice.
The deceased is survived by one widow, eight children, and thirty-two grandchildren.
