RUKUNGIRI: Families that lost their relatives in Bwambara sub-county Rukungiri district when river Rushaya burst its banks are decrying the failure of the government to deliver its promise of a 5 million presidential pledge.

On 08th May 2023, President Museveni directed the state house comptroller to give 5 million to each family in Kigezi region that lost their loved ones and one million to the people who got injuries during the recent floods.

Families that lost their loved ones in Kisoro district received the Presidential condolence of 5 million each but unfortunately, three families in Bwambara sub-county Rukungiri haven’t received a single coin.

According to Chris Kagayano the Bwambara sub-county chairperson, he receives phone calls from members of the affected families asking him about the money every day blaming the local leaders for not following the matter yet other victims in Kisoro received their portion.

Kagayano, says that they are still waiting for the response from the responsible offices adding that previously Minister of Security Maj. Gen Jim Muhwezi had promised them to follow up on the matter so that the affected families can receive their share.

When contacted, Steven Nsubunga Bewayo the Rukungiri resident district commissioner, said those families will receive their money as soon as it’s released and asked for patience.

Three people who lost their lives in Bwambara, were Edson Ngabirano 30, Bonny Kyabasasi 64, and Francis Kabare all from Bwambara sub-county.

Last week,400 families that were affected by floods in Bwambara sub-county Rukungiri district received 50kgs of maize flour and 25kgs of beans from the office of the prime minister.
