Authorities in Bushenyi District have imposed a quarantine on the movement of animals and animal products in Kajunju and Kyeigombe parishes in Kyabugimbi Sub County.

Bushenyi District Resident Commissioner Emmy Ngabirano stated that the quarantine follows an outbreak of anthrax in the area.

He said the outbreak has affected several villages in Bushenyi and Sheema Districts, including Kakyeka, Kigimbi, Kajunju, and Nyanga.

Ngabirano explained that the anthrax outbreak in Ryamasha, Kajunju, and Kyeigombe parishes in Kyangyenyi and Kyabugimbi sub-counties in Sheema and Bushenyi Districts occurred after locals slaughtered and consumed an infected cow.

More than ten people have been infected and are receiving treatment in various health facilities in both Sheema and Bushenyi Districts. He emphasized that the movement of animals such as pigs, sheep, cows, and goats is prohibited.
