A fatal road accident in Kabale District on Friday morning claimed the life of a 33-year-old boda boda rider, Ngabirano Wilber, a resident of Kiyora Village, Kitumba Sub-county.
The accident occurred on February 28, 2025, at around 11:00 AM along the Kabale-Lake Bunyonyi Murram road. Ngabirano was riding a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration number UEY 865V) when he was hit from behind by an Isuzu ELF truck (registration number UBB 675Y), which was transporting aggregates from Lake Bunyonyi towards Kabale.
According to preliminary police reports, the truck driver, who is currently on the run, lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure, leading to the fatal collision. Ngabirano sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital but died on the way.
Police were alerted and responded swiftly, with ASP Mucunguzi, the Officer in Charge of Traffic, leading the investigation team. A scene sketch plan was drawn, witness statements were recorded, and the body of the deceased was taken to Kabale Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Both vehicles involved in the crash have been impounded and are currently parked at Kabale Central Police Station (CPS) pending an inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Authorities have attributed the accident to mechanical failure, specifically brake failure. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
According to ASP Maate Elly, PRO Kigezi region, the police have urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition to prevent such tragedies.
