One person has died and two others were injured in a tragic motorcycle accident that occurred on the night of April 22, 2025, at around 10:20 PM at Rukondo Cell, Rukungiri Municipality, along the Rukungiri–Kihihi Road.
The deceased has been identified as Arinaitwe Spencer, a 40-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Nyabubare Cell, Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District. Arinaitwe was reportedly transporting two male passengers from a burial in Nyarushanje when the fatal accident occurred.
The other victims, Nkurye Philimon, aged 70, and Hakiri Brian, aged 36, both peasants and residents of Bwambara Sub-county, sustained injuries in the crash. The motorcycle, a red Bajaj Boxer registration number UER 138G, is reported to have failed to negotiate a corner at Rukondo, veering off the road and crashing on the opposite side.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly, the scene was promptly visited by traffic police led by Cpl Natima. The victims were rushed to Nyakibale Hospital, where Arinaitwe was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was later taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The motorcycle has been impounded at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Preliminary investigations point to reckless riding and excessive speed as the likely cause of the accident.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
