Authorities in Kisoro District have expressed deep concern regarding the escalating occurrences of Mobile Money Scams that are putting the public at risk of financial losses.

This concern was voiced yesterday during the appointment of fresh leadership for the business community in the central division of Kisoro district, a gathering that took place in the park area. The outcome of this event was the selection of a seven-member committee to spearhead community initiatives.

Lamathan Ndikuyeze, the Chairman of NRM Kisoro Municipality, emphasized that the proliferation of fraudulent messages being circulated by Mobile Money Operators is significantly contributing to the surge in robberies within the locality. Ndikuyeze earnestly cautioned mobile money operators, urging them to cease the transmission of deceitful messages to customers. He implored them to halt this behavior immediately, emphasizing that failure to do so could lead to severe punitive measures from the authorities.

The Kisoro District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Mugerwa Benard has shown the need between the public and the police to combat instances of criminality within the District.

SSP Mugerwa underlined the responsibility of both the business community and the general public in Kisoro District to join forces with law enforcement to bolster the security within their community. He urged the community to promptly report incidents where police officers treat them with disrespect, assuring them that the police force is eager to collaborate with all sectors of the community in Kisoro district.
