Police in Rubanda are investigating the circumstances under which 72-year-old Bukuru Thomas died in an accident.
The accident that involved a trailer RAF 5291/RL 3794 Howo Sino truck white in color driven by a yet-to-be-identified driver, happened on Sunday 24th September 2023 at about 11:30 am at Hamurwa cell, Hamurwa town council along Kabale Kisoro road in Rubanda district.
The deceased is a mukiga and a resident of Hamurwa cell, Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda district.
According to Elly Mate the Kigezi police spokesperson, the speeding vehicle that was heading to Kabale from Kisoro tried to dodge another speeding motor vehicle coming from the opposite side on the same lane but unfortunately, the pedestrian who was on the part of the damaged road trying to rescue his life from the speeding vehicles was hit by a big stone which was put by UNRA to act as a barrier that killed him instantly.
The driver lost control of the motor vehicle, went off-road, slung down into the damaged road cave, and escaped from the scene before police arrival.
The primary cause was identified as careless driving and overspeeding.
The scene was visited by Asp Wakatuma DTO Rubanda assisted by IP Byarunga DCIO, SOCO, and the traffic team.
The body was conveyed to Hamurwa Health Center IV, a postmortem was done and later handed to the relatives. The motor vehicle was towed and parked at Rubanda police station pending inspection.
