Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the tragic drowning of a five-year-old child in a stream in Omubwogo LC1, Kakanju Sub-county. The incident occurred on December 17, 2024.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as a top-class pupil at Good Hope Nursery and Primary School. The child was also a resident of the area.

According to reports, the child’s parents, Leo Kwikiriza, a 45-year-old boda-boda rider, and his wife, had left for work earlier in the day, leaving their children at home. At around 4:30 PM, the child reportedly left home with a five-liter jerrycan to fetch water from a well located approximately 100 meters away.

Tragically, the child drowned in the stream. Residents later discovered the body floating in the water. Kwikiriza, who reported the incident to police, said there were no visible external injuries, but some fluids were observed coming from the child’s mouth.

Police conveyed the body to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for a postmortem examination. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
