Police in Rukungiri in holding four suspects over the alleged theft of government drugs.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman, on 27/07/2022 at about 4:00 PM, an intelligence-led operation was conducted in Nyakabale cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni town council in Rukungiri district after information was received that some workers at Kebisoni Health Center IV had stolen government drugs from the health center.
Police swung into action and accordingly arrested 4 suspects including Natukunda Vilda 43, a Nursing Assistant at Kebisoni Health Center IV, resident of Bukyekye village, Nyakagyeme sub-county in Rukungiri district,
Ainembabazi Brenda 22, a student at KIU Western campus on internship and a resident of Nyamambu cell, Kebisoni town council in Rukungiri district.
Others are Akatukwase Elcom 20, a student of Fort Portal
College of Health Science on internship, resident of Katunga cell, Riyonza Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County in Rukungiri and Akanyijuka Searcher 21, a student at Fort Portal College of Health Science, resident of Kyondo II Village, Kyafoora Parish, Rugarama Sub-county in Ntungamo district.
Maate says a search conducted by police recovered a laptop bag from Natukunda Vilda in which an assortment of medicines including Ceftriaxone Injection (1g) -10, 2 small boxes of Ciprofloxacin (500mg) of 100 tabs, 3 boxes of Doxycycline Capsules (100mg) of 100tabs, Amoxicillin Capsules (250mg) 1 tin of 1000cps, Paracetamol tablets (500mg) 1 tin of 1000 TBS, Metronidazole tablets (200mg) 1 tin of 1000tbs all labeled Government of Uganda.
Ainembabazi Brenda was found with a mosquito Net, 1 box of Examination gloves, and 1box of surgical gloves all labeled Government of Uganda.
Maate says the 4 suspects are currently detained at CPS Rukungiri for further management.
