Over 200 households in Bunyora-Kimbuba villages, chibumba parish, in Chahafi town council, Kisoro district have been displaced by floods.
This follows the heavy downpour that started on Tuesday night to Wednesday morning in the sub counties of Murora and Chahafi.
Mudslides claimed the lives of six people in Biizi and Gihuyaga villages in Murora Sub County. A senior six candidate identified as Nelson Kazungu, 21, was among the dead.
As a result of floods, Gatete- Chibumba road, Chibumba trading center, schools, churches and gardens have all been greatly affected and also Buyora-Kimbuba and Mpundu villages have also been affected.
Chahafi town council is an outlet of other water sources and usually floods every season.
Some of the stranded locals left their submerged houses and are living with their relatives.
According to LC3 chairperson of Chahafi town council, Nkuzimana Hadard, schools, health facilities, roads were affected by floods including crop gardens

The Uganda Red Cross society spokesperson Irene Nakasiita says that communities around Chibumba Primary School in Murora Sub-County are at risk and in dire need of emergency support adding that residents are still stuck with high volumes of water. She observed that Red Cross teams, Kisoro branch are already in the area to validate affected families ahead of relief distribution exercise scheduled for tomorrow.
